The Confessions

Written and Directed by Alexander Zeldin, The Confessions follows Alice from Australia in 1943 to London in 2021, and the entire span of time in between, as she attempts to create herself against a time and a world that wants to diminish her.

This intimate portrayal of an ordinary life was inspired by conversations Alex had with his own mother and her peers, and Alice’s life and relationships tell a story of personal and collective emancipation, and what it meant to be a woman and become yourself in the second half of the 20th Century.

The Confessions was performed at Vienna Festwochen, Athens Epidaurus Festival, Grec Festival Barcelona, Festival d’Avignon, Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe, National Theatre, Comedie de Geneve, Théâtre de Liege, Comedie de Clermont Ferrand, Cultural Centre of Belem Lisbon, Teatros del Canal Madrid, Schaubühne Berlin, Grand Théâtre de la Ville Luxembourg, and Piccolo Theatre Milan.
