Orpheus Turns

Co-created with James Christensen as part of the 2017 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Orpheus Turns was an immersive and site-specific devised performance piece based in Melbourne's iconic Meat Market, featuring original compositions from James Gales, and video projections by Declan Mulcahy.

A hallucinatory and gothic reimagining of the Orpheus myth, this piece invited 15 audience members at a time into the underworld with Orpheus, to look at the processes of grief and cultural memory. This mythic and melancholic show drew inspiration from diverse practices of grieving to examine a contradiction at the heart of the grieving process; a conflict between moving forward and looking back.
